Well gentleman the year is half over in time but not in task. We have the bulk of work ahead of us especially with the following projects: Salisbury Festival, Pets4Vets and The DPI Festival. Each of us needs to buckle down and do the best we can to push through the next six months. After that we can catch our breath in July! Maybe 3VPBC can take us all fishing? However before that we have some important decisions to make. One of which is our club’s involvement regarding the basketball tournament. I’d like to put this topic to bed during the next meeting of January the 27th . We as a group need to determine if we still want to continue our relationship with the County (Tourism and Parks and Rec), move forward on our own or cancel the project for 2008. This is a very important decision to make and I for one feel it should be by majority vote of the membership not just the board. For those that attended our last meeting this topic was discussed but there was not enough time to properly evaluate our alternatives. If you cannot attend please make your voice known to a fellow member, officer or board member.
Next up, I’m asking again for anyone with club history or photographs (prefer electronic format from a digital camera) to contact Lion Ron Nelson, Lion John Selby, Lion Bob Langan or myself. Our club needs this information so a quality presentation can be formatted and then presented on PAC14 our local cable information channel. This has no cost to our club and once completed the presentation can be a hand out to perspective members. Please let’s get this done so we give Lions Ron and John the tools they need to complete the job! Regarding new projects Lion John Ebelein has made a huge investment in time laying out the groundwork for PETS4VETS. During the next meeting we hope to have a location and date selected as well as a brief overview of the project and its general concept for generating revenues. Early meetings with Lions John, Bruce Anderson and Kevin Darcy indicate this project has huge potential. On to membership. It seems every time you turn around we loose a member for this or that reason. However many of you have done a great job in bringing friends to meetings and eventually getting them to move forward and join. Maybe it’s possible for Lion Pat Congro to conduct a class to teach us how it’s done? As of the last meeting we are even for the year. Not bad since we have lost five members due to various reasons. I apologize to all for the lateness of this edition of the Kings Corner and thus the Vox Leo since I was away the week of 7th and out most of last week ill. While I have a chance I’d like to thank those for the calls, emails and post meeting chats regarding my health but more importantly the overall condition of my mother. Words cannot express the importance of your never-ending support. Yours in Lionsism, -KLMM
Guest Speaker Series: Department of Geography and Geosciences Salisbury University Brent J. Zaprowski, Assistant Professor of Geology, in the Department of Geography and Geosciences at Salisbury University presented to the Club at the January 16 meeting. It was an informative discussion of the eastern shore peninsula water table. We heard about the science of water tables, the impact of drilling wells and the drought situation. The highlight "shocker" part of the presentation came at the end with a revelation by the Professor that a meteor struck the lower eastern shore long ago, which disrupted the water table as far north as Delmar. It was an excellent presentation. Thanks Bruzz for arranging Professor Zaprowski’s attendance. Members of the Leo Club assisted at the Holiday Classic B-Ball Tournament. Thanks to those who participated. In the Tournament article below, see some pcis of those who helped.
