BLOOD BANK of DELAWARE / EASTERN SHORE

Founded with 3244 members on May 31, 1961 by the Salisbury Lions Club  through the efforts of Lions David Rodgers, "Pud" Owens, Dr. I.W.Moulthrop and others the Blood Bank  now merged with the Blood Bank of Delaware serves the entire Delmarva Peninsula.

What is the Blood Bank?

Blood Bank of Delaware/Eastern Shore is a non-profit organization that provides over 100,000 units of blood each year to the hospitals in Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland including Cecil County. Members receive coverage in exchange for their support. Blood donation sites are conveniently located throughout the Delmarva Peninsula.

Why should you join?

If you would expect to use any of the hospitals supplied by the Blood Bank for emergencies or planned surgery, we ask you to become a member and support the Blood Bank. Each year in our area, more than 16,000 patients need blood transfusions.

What are the benefits?

If you or anyone covered by your membership uses blood, the Blood Bank will replace it or pay the cost of replacing it. While heath insurance plans cover testing and processing fees, the cost of the blood itself is usually not covered. Non-members are billed for any blood they use or can replace it themselves.

How can I become a member or donate blood?

Call 1-800-553-8819 or 410-749-4161 to speak with a Blood Bank representative who can help you.
